Software asset management for many years has focused on software compliance, whereby project managers were given the brief of ensuring “software compliance”; very often loosing the will to live. The process involved in achieving a controlled and managed environment for software has always been very simple. The difficulty arrives when we bring licenses and audit data into the frame. These two areas alone have brought many software compliance/asset management projects to a grinding halt with organizations seeing or experiencing very little business benefit.
Thankfully software is now starting to be recognized as an asset within businesses and as such we have seen the emergence of new standards and certifications (ITIL SAM and ISO 19770-1); which in turn has aided the identification of the tangible business benefits that can be realized by organizations.
At Infrasolve our key to success has been the combination of strong subject matter consultancy coupled with outstanding technical ability. This has enabled us to approach SAM projects with a holistic view on what can be achieved and how best to achieve success for our clients. Another point that differentiates us from other SAM service providers is that we are able to implement robust SAM systems that provide instant and ongoing business benefits
Infrasolve strongly believes in aligning technology to the accepted and tested standards for software asset management. For too many years vendors have offered software asset management solutions that have led heavily with the technology and of course SAM is much broader than the technology alone. In recent years we have seen a more “licence” based approach from vendors. This has essentially been driven down from software publishers requesting that resellers provide SAM services. Again organizations that lead with a linear approach to SAM will fail. Performing “licence management” on your “top 20” applications will not give you full SAM.
We believe that for organizations to truly experience the business benefits of SAM they must take on board a comprehensive view point of what SAM can do for their business:
Risk avoidance
Cost avoidance and
Operation optimization.
And in order to succeed organizations must look at the tools available to them:
Technology
Processes
