SAM Outsourcing
For many organizations there has been increased awareness in the benefits of SAM. With this we have seen a real upturn in the number of organizations designing and resourcing SAM teams post successful completion of SAM projects.
Because SAM as a subject is a relatively new practice; certainly within the realms of ITIL and ISO, there is a distinct lack of SAM practitioners that have granular and comprehensive experience, this of course can hinder and damage an organizations SAM system. We have even seen many large credible outsourcing firms struggle to provide the depth of knowledge and experience required to manage software effectively within a business.
As a result this has produced a niche requirement from our client base to provide perpetual and onsite SAM resource. At Infrasolve we employ a small team of Associate Consultants who specifically support our existing SAM clients to ensure all areas of a SAM system are maintained and compliant.
Outsourcing Sense Check
The two core expectations of outsourcing for many organizations are improved management of IT, and reduction in cost to the business. Software and IT asset management are fundamental tools to enable such improvement and cost reduction within an IT environment.
In general as a client whilst you place the procurement and management of software into the hands of your outsourcing partner, you remain responsible for both compliance issues and the cost of the software. Because of this fact many of our clients now request annual software management reviews whereby we “sense check” an outsourcers’ practices, inventories and process. This in turn provides a check on the management of software (and maintenance) costs and the level of risk the business is open to.
At Infrasolve we have experience in reviewing outsourcers SAM practices to establish if you as the client are getting value for money; and the service you set out to achieve. From “bloated” audit reports to substandard audit cleansing processes, our Advisory Consultants will be able to aid you in understanding what level of service you are currently receiving and how to make improvements to reduce risk and cost.
